Mental health is fucked up in this country and for many reasons. First, the pay for professionals in mental health sucks sweaty ass crack water, to put it mildly. When a government funded program only pays a master’s degree professional with experience a whopping $13 dollars an hour, which is a whole dollar more per hour than what the guy who is pushing in shopping carts for Target makes, it screams that the pay scale is fubar, big time!
They say we have an addiction epidemic. They say mental health issues are out of control. Well … Do you want better mental health professionals? Do you want more mental health professionals? Then try paying them something they can actually fucking live on while they attempt to pay back their $100,000 in fucking student loans! Government “funded” programs, what a joke! Second, because everything is government funded, it means it’s also government structured, which basically means that its way behind the curve on actually implementing the new shit that actually works! A day late and a dollar short pretty much sums up the governments involvement in most things. However, this is a two-fold issue, as one ~ obviously the current treatment is less than totally effective. But two ~ it means that the general population who is “educated” by these programs, walks around like a fucking parrot simply restating the outdated shit that they were force-fed as “truths.” Which means, when someone who is actually current on treatments and methodologies comes along and tries to make a real change in things, everyone thinks that they’re the stupid ones! Oh the irony! Then there is insurance … that’s a whole damn book full of clusterfucks all in and of itself ~ suffice it to say that insurance simply fucks thing up even more, and does way more harm than good! Finally, and most importantly in my own tiny opinion … no one seems to give a shit. Doctors don’t care that they don’t take the time to actually understand what their patients need, often double and triple booking themselves with patients so they can meet their status quo even with patient cancelations. They do this while also knowingly just medicating the symptoms of their patients through a system of trial and error of the newest and most lucrative marketed medications (perhaps why over 250,000 people die each year due to medical malpractice, the third leading cause of death in the US). Even mental health practitioners don’t seem to care that what they are doing is lacking in what they could be providing. When questioned about it, they simply use “we just do what we can” as the cop-out across the board. All the while deaths from suicide and addiction continue to sky rocket! And ironically, the patients don’t seem to give a rats ass about hearing anything else than what they currently believe to be true (try getting someone off their meds and onto a holistic program instead … good fucking luck!). Talking to literally 1000’s of people in addiction and those with other mental health issues has led me to these understandings:
